  • As someone who loves to draw flowers, it can be a challenge when we're deep in the middle of autumn. Last November (as it happens every year), I started to truly crave and miss the abundance of flowers. To satisfy that craving, I thought it would be helpful for my creative practice to draw these petite bouquets in the meantime—little did I know how much fun I was going to have with them. I purchased a sketchbook and felt an inkling to tear up the rectangular pages into smaller pieces by hand, akin to a Polaroid picture. That certainly got the creative juices flowing! To create the “frame” for the drawing, I put my trusty bone folder to good use. Voila, a blank canvas ready to capture an imaginary snapshot of a floral still life, if you will.

My recent obsession with 1stDibs brought me down a rabbit hole of antique vases and vessels. They say that “the time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time”, right? Well, I simply could not stop thinking about these vessels and had to draw them with bouquets! The smaller size of these frames (4" x 5") allowed me to be playful with every brushstroke and not feel so much pressure to perfect each one. The looser the brushstrokes, the more fun it was!

As I continued on this playful practice in my studio (all while sharing the process on Instagram), the series started to build itself and many of you have asked if and when they will be available for purchase. After spending some time with them in my studio, I’m so thrilled to share these floral still lifes with you and I hope they bring you much joy and beauty.
