  • For the first time this spring, tulips and narcissus bloomed in my garden. My sweet husband helped me plant bulbs (from Whistling Prairie Flowers) in the late fall and they brought me so much joy. I hadn't been drawing consistently at the time, but all of a sudden these flowers came up bursting like sunshine, and every fibre of my being wanted to bottle that up. Every day, I would sit at my desk and draw multiple studies, turning the vase ever so slightly to see its different angles and translating that from one drawing after another. You can see more of my daily studies here.

Next thing I knew, my Narcissus Studies were starting to pile up into a little collection. At the time, I didn't think it would lead to me selling these original artworks to you. My only intention, at the heart of it, was to capture their beauty and be consistent in my drawing practice with quick, gestural brush strokes. I tried not to spend so much time thinking too critically about the techniques. I simply let my hand guide the brush pen lightly, and then heavily to create varying textures. I loved finding freedom in this style of drawing.
